Optometry Giving Sight
The gift of sightWe are continuing to request your "loonies and toonies" for Optometry Giving Sight (OGS) and our commitment to match this with doctor donations. According to the International Centre for Eyecare Education, at least 250 million people around the world are blind or visually impaired simply because they don't have access to an eye exam and a pair of glasses. OGS through fundraising of optometrists and their patients, helps deliver local sustainable, affordable eyecare services in countries where none exist. Your donations to OGS are supporting 3 key projects:Giving Sight to Blind Children in Africa More than 400,000 children in Africa are considered blind due to uncorrected refractive error. OGS is raising funds to help identify the 50% who simply need an eye exam and a pair of strongly powered glasses to see. National Refractive Error Program for South Africa Just 50 optometrists work in the public sector serving 38 million people. This program recruits private optometrists and trains staff to provide services in public clinics. Vision Care Service Development in Sri Lanka The 2004 tsunami and years of civil war, has devastated Sri Lanka and its health care system - 75% of Sri Lankans have never had their eyes tested. OGS is raising funds to establish sustainable, quality eye care delivery in the tsunami affected areas and in other underserved regions. Together we are creating hope and opportunity for millions in need. For more information on OGS, go to www.givingsight.org or call 1-800-585-8265. |
